It’s official L.A. Reid and Epic Records has announced their newest president, the legendary music executive, Sylvia Rhone. She will replace Mark Shimmel, who left Epic Records in January of 2013. Sylvia was the former Motown Records President, which she did from 2004 up until 2011, when she stepped down. Previous to Motown she was the CEO/Chairman of Elektra Entertainment Group. After leaving Motown, she started her own imprint, Vested In Culture, a joint venture with Epic. The Vested In Culture roster includes Quadron, Kat Dahlia and Casey Veggies.
L.A. Reid was excited for Sylvia Rhone that he stated:
“Having worked closely with Sylvia Rhone, I’ve witnessed firsthand how she shares a passion for an artists-first culture. I look forward with genuine enthusiasm to the next chapter of Epic Records.”
Sylvia Rhone had this to say about working with L.A. Reid and the EPIC move:
