Meet Sonyae Elise, the Newark, New Jersey native who is not only an incredible songwriter, but vocalist, as well. Growing up, Sonyae had experience in musical theatre productions on and off Broadway throughout her childhood years. Furthermore, at 15 years old, she had captured the attention of The Midi Mafia production team (Justin Bieber, Fantasia, Jennifer Lopez, etc.), who had then produced her first mixtape. Since then, she has been making waves within the industry with her gift for songwriting and performing.
I first heard of Sonyae Elise in 2011 on Bravo TV’s reality show, “Platinum Hit,” where performing songwriters wrote songs on each weekly episode to compete for the grand prize of a recording contract and publishing deal. As I had predicted from one of the early episodes, Sonyae’s incredible gift of emotion driven and thought provoking lyrics won her the title. More recently, I came across her on the Twitter app “Vine,” where she has garnered a tremendous amount of attention from young fans. She has a great voice, but her strongest suit is her songwriting abilities, in my opinion. I can see her music getting placements with multiple Pop/R&B powerhouses like Beyoncé, Rihanna, and beyond. Most notable tracks are “Exit,” “Enemy,” “Stranger To Love,” and of course her pop ballad that clearly displays her lyrical and melodic genius, “My Religion.”
