HUNTR is a L.A.-based alternative/hip-hop collective who’s mission is to push more progressive sounds and originality to music’s banal forefront. Originally, HUNTR was a duo consisting of Gilbere Forté and Raak. As they began production on their debut project they expand to four members with the addition of their drummer Nick Audy and multi-instrumentalist Boris Likharev. The name HUNTR was inspired by Philadelphia-bred frontmen Gilbere and Raak’s spiritual journey to rediscover their respective purposes in life and music. That pursuit (or “hunt”) aptly led to the group’s name.
The debut self-titled project has been in the works since 2014 and we must say it was well worth the wait. The 11-track album effortlessly blends element’s of hip-hop and rock and is sure to peak the interest of fans from both sides of the fence. The overall tone of the project is dark, experimental, and even cinematic. On the vocal end, Gilbere and Raak tag team to take listeners on a journey through darkness and resurrection. Prior collaboration between the two probably contributed to the chemistry between Gilbere’s rhymes and Raak’s vocals. On the production end, the band gives fan an intense listening experience that can be described as cinematic. From the hard-hitting percussion and guitars to experimental sounds, the production progression gets your blood pumping, leaves you on the edge of your seat and make you feel like your listening to a movie soundtrack.
Collectively, these guys have come together with diverse talents and created an outstanding project. If pushing progressive sounds and originality were the objectives then we’d consider it mission accomplished. . Press play below and let us know if you think they are a band to watch.
