Bebe Rexha has had a great year. From being a featured songwriter on Eminem’s latest album, and building an organic buzz online. 2014 looks great for this singer/songwriter. Rumour has it she’s signed a deal with a major label. Stay tuned.
2013 has been a little quiet for Amaal. From a promising year in 2012, Amaal hasn’t released any new music. Not to worry, 2014 seems promising as rumour has it she’s linked to Drake’s OVO. We’ll see what 2014 brings but we’re definitely betting on Amaal Nuxx to make an impact.
PartyNextDoor had a great year in 2013, catapulted by a Drake-cosign. The new artist signed to OVO was also featured as a songwriter on Drake’s latest release Nothing Was The Same. Look out for big things from PartyNextDoor in 2014.
Lorine Chia is a native of Ohio by way of Cameroon who successfully released her ‘freelease’ Lorine garnering a large buzz online. Rumoured to be on Kanye’s last album Yeezus, Lorine is a great singer/songwriter destined for a huge 2014. Stay tuned.
TopDawgEnt’s first lady, SZA has made a huge name for herself. With her first single ‘Teen Spirit’ she hasn’t slowed down since. With a slew of new releases coming from TDE next year, look for SZA to make many notable guest appearances along with her solo work.
Banks had a great year in 2013. Taking advantage of being an opening act on the Weeknd tour, Banks has made a great following for herself, coupled by a growing online buzz. Look out for more progress from Banks in 2014.
The UK has many promising acts developing but you can’t forget about Kieran Alleyne. Not only does he play the role of Jimmy on UK TV Show Dani’s Castle, he’s also a great performer. Coupled by his ability to dance, and his amazing vocals 2014 looks to be a great year for Kieran. Word has it he’s signed a deal to a major label. Stay tuned to Kierans progress.
Vancouver’s own SonReal has made a huge buzz for himself this year. With his album ‘The Closer’s’ with Toronto native Rich Kidd and his latest single Everywhere We Go Son Real had an exciting year. Look out for him to follow up on a great year in 2014.
TDE’s latest signee Isaiah Rashad has already made a name for himself with no debut release. With the success of Shot You Down and Ronnie Drake, Isaiah’s debut project Cilvia is definitely one to look out for.
With Cee Lo Green and Paloma Faith under her belt, JETTA is now causing a ruckus of her own, since introducing us to her underground smash, START A RIOT. Look out for big things from new Republic Records’ signee – Jetta.
Shortstraw are a Joburg based band making waves on the national indie music scene in a big way. with their simple melodies and catchy rhythms, the band has taken pleasure in rocking the most prominent live music venues and clubs in the country, and is well known for getting the crowd dancing.
ASTR is a duo that lives, works and writes music in New York City. After meeting three years ago in a Manhattan yoga class, they discovered they shared a musical and artistic sensibility informed by cinema noire, Miami Vice and urban dreamscapes. ASTR was soon born. With their release on their record Operate look out for a follow up in 2014.
In the quickly rising new-school class of ‘alt-R&B’, Jarell Perry is paving his own lane. His critically-acclaimed debut LP “Simple Things,” which mixes flavors of Electronic, Indie-Rock, and Pop, has already drawn comparisons to cross-over heavyweights like Miguel and Frank Ocean. 2014 seems very promising for Jarell as he recently signed a deal with Steve Rifkind’s All Def Music.
Chela has been featured on warm weather tracks by Goldroom, Clubfeet, and Viceroy. Now, this electro-pop cool kid has a release of her own. “Romanticise”, out now on Kitsuné. Chela has a lot more in store for 2014. Stay tuned.
Toronto’s Luu Breeze had a great year. With the release of CityInGold, a headling performance at A3C and a co-sign from Drake on his release ‘The Rewind’ 2014 looks to be the year of Luu Breeze. Look out for his project Remember What You Said dropping in 2014.
Andreena, formerly known as Andreena Mill most known for her previous collaborations with Drake has made a name for herself as a solo artist. With her free project Naked, Andreena garnered extensive positive reviews online. With the female lane wide open, and new and exciting opportunities for Andreena in 2014, the new year looks very promising.
Sway Clarke II
Recently contributing a song to the new Tinie Tempah album “Demonstration”, he features as vocalist on the tracks chorus too, as Tinie was so impressed with his guide vocal that it ended up being used on the finished record.
His first solo offering, ‘I Don’t Need Much’, inspired by a recent move to Berlin, is a spirited ode to the experience moving to a new city, with its sensations of liberation, self-sufficiency and the search for a good time, set to an intoxicatingly woozy late-night wall of sound.
2013 was a progressive year for G Milla. After releasing his videos Psycho and DMT, G has developed a large and growing fan base. G looks to release a debut album in 2014. Look out for big things from the Toronto native.
2013 was a good year for Doja. She’s been buzzing off her Soundcloud lately. There’s not much information available about Doja online. Currently she’s unsigned. Rumour also has it she’s been linked to Dr.Luke. Stay tuned in 2014.
Ruby is a very promising talent based in the UK. With her release ‘Badman’ and ‘A Light’ she has made huge progress in 2013. 2014 looks to be a great year as she plans to release new music. Look out for Ruby as an Artist 2 Watch in 2014.
The Migos made noise in Atlanta’s indie scene off the strength of their trap house anthem “Bando”. Drake’s remix to Versace definitely helped as well. Look out for the three man gang rumored to be signing to a major label soon.
Rich Homie Quan
Rich Homie Quan had a huge year in 2013. His single”Type of Way” would be released to iTunes by Def Jam Recordings in August 2013, suggesting him signing to the legendary hip hop record label. Quan was also featured on the song “My Nigga” by YG also featuring Young Jeezy, which peaked at number 19 on the Hot 100. He was also featured on 2 Chainz’ second studio album B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time, on the song “Extra”. In September 2013, he confirmed that he was 30% done with his debut album. Look out for more from Rich in 2014.
Lewis Watson is a young talented singer/songwriter currently based in Oxfordshire, England. He released his first single Into the Wild in 2013. 2014 looks very promising for Lewis as he plans to release new music. Stay tuned.
