With little to nothing known about pop newcomer Vérité, it’s hard to pin point exactly who she is and what she’s all about. The one thing I can tell you though is that she’s definitely for real. Thus far, in a musical career consisting of only 3 songs, Strange Enough, Weekend, and Echo, delivered to us one by one over the last three months and amassing over a half a million plays on Soundcloud, she has definitely made an impression. In a world where getting people to listen to you, let alone pay attention to you is one thing, releasing 3 songs and totaling over a half a million listens is an entirely different thing.
The first time I heard Vérité I was impressed. Her lyrical content, coupled with a danceable production, and sultry delivery felt like I was listening to a less depressed version of Lana Del Ray mixed with Ellie Goulding. And with each release being a little different from the last I’m excited to see what she does next.
Vérité, who says she was surprised when people started classifying her music as pop, wrote her debut EP with no specific genere in mind and is quoted as saying “For me, the best part about the EP is that we wrote it with no intention for genre,” she explains. “When people started calling it pop, I was almost shocked by that. It just so happens that the songs are chorus-heavy, which translates to pop, but I was listening to hip-hop when I wrote “Strange Enough,” for instance, and there are a lot of different influences you can hear on the EP.”
Vérité’s debut EP, the “Echo EP” is scheduled for an October 20th release, the day before she is scheduled to perform at CMJ in New York. Check out her songs Strange Enough, Weekend, and Echo below, as well as the dates and times of her CMJ performances.
