Introducing California born, Brooklyn raised Siya. A female rapper that it seems was either born in the wrong decade, or placed here to help us remember where Rap evolved. In an age where the consumer has begun to mistake cookie cutter rap and lazy metaphors for talent, Siya is a breath of fresh air, a reminder of the 90’s boom of Hip Hop.
An openly Gay female, Siya has faced a lot of resistance for refusing to conform to a “less threatening” more “marketable” brand. But it seems as though she is starting to gain traction with the release of her new song and music video One Hunnid. With the help and direction of R&B singer Tank who signed Siya to a Production deal under his Soundbase Ent. the video for One Hunnid was released on the wave of the successful reality show Sisterhood of Hip-Hop on the Oxygen network (the networks highest rated freshman series primer of the year). A show that Siya found herself cast on after receiving the nod of approval from fellow MC T.I. when he reached out to Tank in need of filling a spot for the show.
Siya is currently recording her debut album, due out later this year. She is surly one to keep an eye out for as Complex listed her as one of their top 10 New NY Rappers to watch out for. Check out the video for One Hunnid and a freestyle over Drakes’s Pound Cake below.
