What happens when you take the lead singer of a band and let him explore his R&B side? You get Sextape. Toronto’s Chris LaRocca is vocalist and keyboardist of the band Elos Arma and Sextape is his Alt-R&B solo venture. He’s already released three projects; Perma Party Vol. 1 & 2 and the collaborative project “sUs” with Sly Why that was released last month.
Perma Party Vol. 1 was Sextape’s introduction. He handles production and vocals on this one. Standout track “Good Bitch” is what initially caught my attention. You’ll hear his alternative roots in his vocal delivery, with some R&B influence in the production. Its not that lovey dovey R&B sound, but an experimental raw and free form that’s intriguing. On Perma Party Vol. 2, Sextape took a step back towards the alternative side, but you’ll still hear that R&B influence. The instrumentation on Vol. 2 was enjoyable and would probably sound pretty dope live. The Sextape x Sly Why collaborative project “sUs” was released on October 31st and has more of an experimental Soulection-esque vibe to it. If you’re looking for a unique blend of experimental R&B and Alternative music, press play below and let us know if you think Sextape is an artist 2 watch.
