After doing my research, I am beyond impressed with this artist making some big noise in the south. Pell is an MC that is beginning to lead the pack in what FADER coined as “dream-rap”. He was born in New Orleans and moved to Mississippi at a young age after being displaced by Hurricane Katrina. He started out producing, which then evolved to rapping and singing. To date, Pell has opened for MGK, Juicy J, The Roots, and Ace Hood, among others.
There is a big vision behind this music being made. Pell is able to put out music that is classic but fresh, nostalgic but new, indie but mainstream, all at the same time. The talented artist recently put out an EP titled “Floating While Dreaming”, which has been very well received and gained some national attention. One honorable trait of Pell’s music is how much attention he puts on lyrics and storytelling, which to me is the most compelling part of hip-hop. Do yourself a favor and enjoy his work:
