Toronto’s Got Talent? Absolutely – They have Kayo. Hailing from St. Lucia, and spending considerable time in Nova Scotia before settling in Toronto, Kayo connects with hip hop music lovers everywhere with his fusion of pop, reggae, rap, and r&b in one sound. On his track “Same Page” he rides the beat like a revamped, younger version of Flo-Rida with a gritty flow. Kayo shows us his melodic flow over intriguing production on “Nagato” with help from one of his influences Kardinal Offishall.
Kayo’s passionate energy comes across on each record with a raw, raspy delivery. That mixture along with heartfelt, sometimes ominous, lyrics creates an experience for the listener rather than mere sounds. On the more pop records like “Talk” we get to see Kayo’s high energy, charismatic side.
It becomes clear he can create a project for both the streets and radio. Kayo seems to be another artist benefitting from the good luck charm Toronto is.
