The fact is, if you’re not paying attention to Jez Dior, you’re missing out on the rise of an artist that is truly coming into his own. Jez hit the scene last year with the release of his debut album “Scarlett Sage” generating waves of fans while winning the praise of critics, finding himself trending on The Hype Machine. The lead single off of “Scarlett Sage” was the more pop infused hip-hop track Candles, with a video that has amassed over 300,000 views on youtube. “Scarlett Sage” in and of itself was an extremely eclectic album infused with samples ranging from Lana Del Ray on the track Move On to Eiffel 65’s song “Blue” on the track Blue. However, my personal favorite would have to be the darker Love Me to Death, a song that is more of a segway to his darker side, and a genre of music that Jez is classifying as “Grunge rap” a style in which it seems the evolving artist is leaning towards.
I had the pleasure of attending a show for Jez at The Viper room in Hollywood last year upon the release of Scarlett Sage. Standing out from the crowded scene of rappers performing to a room of people over Mp3’s, Jez hit the stage with a full band demanding the attention of a crowd that swooned over the young artist.
Since the release of “Scarlett Sage” Jez has put out multiple songs and videos, but the video for his song Who Drank My Whisky offers us a look into the ominous side of the rapper all the while continuing to show the growth and direction of his music. Jez has continued to impress with his most recent release Starts Again. Check it out below, along with the video for Who Drank My Whisky.
