Artist Name: Jazz Cartier
Today Toronto’s own rapidly rising rapper Jazz Cartier is pleased to premiere his latest project Marauding In Paradise. The mix tape is currently streaming in full and can be heard below.
Marauding in Paradise, Jazz Cartier’s first full-length offering since he stepped onto the scene in 2013, features sixteen new tracks, all produced by Jazz’s long-time producer Lantz. Heavily influenced by the mayhem and moodiness of downtown Toronto, the tape offers an eclectic but cohesive blend of Jazz’s forward-thinking rhymes and beats. The young, versatile MC is as equally comfortable playing with his voice over gritty, pulsing beats in new songs like “Dead Or Alive” and “The Valley” as he is getting pensive and introspective on “Feel Something” or “Too Good To Be True.” The tape includes fan-favorite tracks like the previously released “Switch / The Downtown Cliché” and “New Religion,” of which he has recently shared striking visuals for.
Says Jazz Cartier, “Marauding in Paradise” is the sound of Downtown, Toronto. As the only one giving it an identity, MIP is a story of built up emotions, and frustrations through the eyes of the city’s biggest target. All the intricacies throughout this project foreshadow life and death, and I’m content with that. High risk only calls for higher reward.”
The 22 year-old hip hop artist has been steadily rising out of Toronto’s underground art scene, releasing a slew of new music over the past few months. Growing up across the world – Jazz has lived everywhere from New England to Kuwait before settling in Toronto – his eclectic sound has garnered acclaim and attention from the likes of The FADER, VICE/Noisey, Complex, Billboard, XXL, Hypebeast and more. Marauding in Paradise is just the beginning for the highly-focused recording artist.
