Hewan was born in the bay area to 1st generation Ethiopian-Americans who had moved to the US for college. Her teacher Miss Cecilia first noticed Hewan’s voice at “Little Mud Puddles” pre-school. Hewan’s desire to write songs arose after seeing India Arie for the first time on 106&Park. Her expressive journey began with poetry. In fact, her poem “Gossip Folk” was published when she was in high school. Hewan bought her first guitar in college and began writing songs on one string. After graduating at San Jose State with a BA in Business Marketing, she then pursued her real dream to become a music artist.
